Jieshao

Jie Shao perceives life experiences as a means and medium rather than a conclusive outcome, encompassing specific events and broader societal climates. The core of Shao's artistic practice revolves around exploring the transformations of individuals' bodies, memories, and linguistic encounters within diverse cultural and political systems. To delve into the tangible sensations and materials that underlie these transitions, Shao's creative approach integrates elements from the past and present, incorporating physical and handmade works, with sculpture and installation serving as foundational components. Jie earned an MFA in Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design. Notable exhibitions include a solo exhibition at IS A GALLERY in Shanghai (2021) and participation in the group exhibition "Witches own without" in Hong Kong (2022). Jie has also been involved in the NARS Art Foundation residency program in New York (2023).
